I intend to join a AD domain from a Vista Pro computer currently in aworkgroup. Once I've filled in the account/password credentials dialog boxwith a system account. I can see a pop up window with this error message: "The following error has occured when trying to join the "yris" domain:network path not found." I can't see anything else in the event log... VERY VERY annoying problem i'm having so thought i would ask for some assisstance before i go mad. Setup Win 2003 Server on a spare PC at domiciliate set it up as a domain controller (installed AD and DNS) and now i am trying to alter machines on the communicate a member of this domain. Every machine i try and add i am getting an error message: "a domain controller for the domain could not be contacted". I have tested this on my laptop which is running XP and on my other PC which is running Vista. My Network setup is attached (see below). DHCP is enabled on the router and all machines are getting assigned IP's book if their on DHCP. Some machines are setup as static which are: The router (192.168.1.1) the Server (192.168.1.160). PC (192.168.1.151) and are picking up their IP's fine. For arguments sake lets say i'm trying to connect the PC to the domain (but as i've said i tested with PC and laptop neither worked). Ok the firewall on PC and server is off i am able to ping the PC from Server and visa versa. The domain i setup on the server (howelly com) resolves from the PC:From Command line on my PC:nslookup howelly comServer: UnKnownAddress: 192.168.1.160:53Name: howelly comAddress: 192.168.1.160Its doing my continue in and i feel i am missing something quite obvious. I undergo been around and around with this issue. I can no longer joinany xp machines to my 2003 domain. I can register look for the server andother machines on the domain but cannot join the domain. I can browseby name and IP communicate just book. I was able to join severalcomputers to the domain before now I can't join anything.
