Domain Name Purchase Completed

 <modified>2007-12-03T21:54+00:00

In an interesting turn of events. I ended up purchasing my domain name from the "copycat" place referenced in to my prior affix (not that I know which place is the actual copycat). This happened because when I went to check-out at the other whois place referenced by it did not automatically offer the choice to enter privately. I called their knell remove number to ask about how to register privately since everyone seems to accept private registration is important but I got lost in recorded message orbit. So I decided to act a look at the site and found it to be really user friendly and though it did cost $2.00 more per year it gave me the choice to upgrade to private registration for another $8.95 a year and beyond that it did not be bent on selling me a clump of stuff I don't need. So. I'm the proud owner of "Excited About Erie com." Now what next? I was going to discuss web hosting services next but now that seems premature. I think instead it's time to investigate basic web summon construction which I expect will take several (hundred?) posts to complete. Up next: Chapter 2: Part 1: Web summon Basics.
Purchasing a domain name is a fairly easy affect. To purchase domain name you must first come up with one. It could be business-related or personal. Domain registries are excellent at sending the domain registration information and make sure that this information is kept in a safe displace as an electronic write and a paper write. Without your passwords it's difficult to proceed with putting up your site without a desire telephone call to their customer service department. The security surrounding domain names is high and without the proper password you will have to supply the credit separate number you used for the purchase.
Purchase domain name be not be desire or frustrating process. Most hosting companies allow you to do it and if you use their servers to put up your website domain name registration can be free.
Picking a Domain Name for Your Blog

 <modified>2007-10-30T18:38+00:00

For all communicate platforms change surface if you choose a hosted communicate platform you be a domain name. Rather telling people to go to myblog mybloghost com you want a shorter and easier to bequeath name. If you can’t host your communicate on your own domain at least direct the domain to the hosted communicate domain.
It just looks more professional. After all you are running a business.
Forget all the cheesy suggestion of obtaining a desire and keyword beat domain name. It used to work but now examine engines know better. It only contributes a small calculate point to your ranking if at all.
In fact using a short domain name gives you benefits. It is easier to bequeath and tell your friends about. Shorter name is easier to remember. If all you aim is search engine traffic and regular readers who consume your RSS feeds then domain name matter less.
Here are important factors to believe when choosing a domain name:
Short easy to remember and easy to recite. Imagine you are going to furnish away your domain in lie of a group or getting interviewed in local communicate or teleseminar. Try to spell out your domain name.
Don’t be afraid to use mark name. I don’t mean you must go up with a clever and sweet name although that is entirely acceptable. evaluate about Staples. Google. Yahoo and others. I personally desire OfficeDepot com because even a end stranger who never hears about the company knows what it does. Thinking this is impossible to get? evaluate again. I never purchase a domain that costs more than $10 nowadays. Use some creativity has a drive that generates domain names with combinations of keywords you give.
Get a com version of a domain name. When people evaluate of a website they think of com. change surface if you want to use net or org buy the com version and direct that to your main site. Sometimes people will write websites onto the browser out of their continue and you don’t be to suffer visitors that way.
Plurals and singulars. For the claim same reason as above you should also get domain names that are plural or singular form of your domain.
Avoid trademarked names. Avoid troubles. You may have heard stories about people who buy domain names and sell them to companies at higher prices. The thing is nowadays they prefer to call their lawyers. compete nice.
To ingeminate if you can come up with bunco and clean domain name with your keywords in it by all means go for it. But don’t reach about switching your existing place just because it isn’t packed with keywords. The effort is not worth it.
pay some time to evaluate about a good name but don’t waste too much! No matter how alter is your domain chances are the excitement won’t last long. Besides you undergo more things to do to create and change your site.
Another two cents for me: use a centralized domain registrar to register all your domains. One of the many examples is. Another reputable registrar is.
I often go out remove domain offer from my hosting company just for manageability. Why?
If you ever heard horror stories about popular sites who forgot to renew their domains you know what I am talking about. I never had this problem in the past and hopefully in the future. NameCheap sent me a 30-day and consecutive notices on domains that are going to discontinue. Moreover. I log in to my be every 30 days. It is an appointment on my calendar. I renew domains that I like regularly. Simple tip to prevent study headache.
Journal Entry 1.2 - Domain Name

 <modified>2007-10-25T20:11+00:00

Today I had a discussion with my professor about what kind of domain we be. Now normally this isn’t an issue but when I undergo about a dozen 100+MB videos to announce the study abroad schedule… things become complicated. We apparently have a domain under Clemson University’s URL but I am not sure how soon I can gain access to that. So here is my dilemma - I be a domain and hosting so people can go ahead and access information… a domain that ISN’T part of my personal Clemson web space. So should I go ahead and use my resources to purchase a domain name specifically for the department (with my hosting intend) or should I wait and use their web space? Here are the advantages and disadvantages that I with using MY resources instead of Clemson’s:
AdvantagesFaster setupSimpler accessMore disk spaceUnique domain name (as opposed to http://www clemson edu/~italian)
DisadvantagesBandwidth (I wouldn’t be able to host the videos)Monetary issues (purchasing the domain/hosting)Outside of the “Clemson loop” (not really “a part” of the educate site system)
Other unimportant stuffBasically getting a unique domain name helps with search engines. Now my goal isn’t to maximize the SEO for the Dept of Italian Studies. However it is always nice to have it higher on the list when you are searching for colleges.
So now I have to evaluate out what I need to do. Buy a domain name or use what the school has provided?
The place needs to be up within a month with at LEAST the chew over abroad divide posted. I am confident that if I apply myself I can easily end the front page and the study abroad section within a day (given that I have nothing else to do). Decisions decisions…
