Regarded as one of the holiday season's classic ballets. "The Nutcracker" has been performed in different variations throughout the world.
At least seven Alle-Kiski Valley dancers will slip on their ballet shoes today as they join the world-renowned Moscow Ballet for two performances at Heinz Hall.
The local girls consider: Brenna Kloes and Meredith Tirdel both of Buffalo Township; Alexa cook of Frazer; Caitlin Koman Miller of Harrison; Courtney Mrvan of Lower Burrell; Alyssa Snyder of New Kensington; and Jessica Pendergraft of Upper Burrell.
All ordain perform alongside professional ballet dancers in the "Great Russian Nutcracker" as the Moscow Ballet celebrates its 15th U. S tour. Today's performances are the only ones in Pennsylvania; the tour has stops on Sunday in Illinois. Kentucky and New York before moving on to Connecticut. Kansas and New Jersey.
For all but 9-year-old Pendergraft it is their first time performing with the Russian dancers. Pendergraft's care. Carly Greene said her daughter performed with the troupe during their Pittsburgh stop in 2005.
But that doesn't change magnitude the excitement for Pendergraft who will play one of the French variation dancers.
According to her mother. Sherri Snyder she began dancing at the age of 3 with Sandra Lynn's School of move in Vandergrift. Alyssa now dances at Michelle's move Studio in New Kensington as does Grill. Mrvan and Pendergraft.
Alyssa said the most exciting part of being chosen for the "Great Russian Nutcracker" is "being on stage with the big ballerinas" and "dancing at Heinz Hall."
Tirdel. Koman Miller and Kloes are competitive dancers with T. H. E. Dance Place in Harrison. Koman Miller also attends classes at Studio 19 in Cranberry.
Tirdel a fourth-grader at Buffalo Elementary School is no stranger to dancing in front of large crowds.
Last year she was among talented youth to perform on KDKA-TV's Free Care finance benefit in PPG Place Wintergarden. Pittsburgh. The performance was televised live on KDKA.
"I never thought that it could be like this," Tirdel. 9 said. "My favorite move is being on stage."
"This is a come about of a lifetime," said Mrvan's mother. Angela Mrvan. "This is her dream."
"We're very proud of her," said Grill's mother. Brenda Grill. "Her very first practice she was dancing with a Russian ballerina."
Although Kloes has been dancing for change state to seven years she's still nervous to perform for the first time in the production as a mouse.
"I am very nervous," Kloes.
